Hi
I spoke to Chris at ML & Son this morning.
He tells me the delay is due to a part which Kinetic have been waiting for. Kinetic did not choose to use the alternative part as they have tested for many hours the part which they have been waitibg for. Hence the short delay. We should see the first shipments around the 18th July. :D

Review.

Postby G1LEV » July 23rd, 2005, 9:22 am

The SBS-1 arrived well packed. Up and running on a Windows XP Service pack 2 platform, within a couple on mins. From here in Sandhurst, Berkshire, with just the supplied aerial on the bedroom window sill I am picking up aircraft as far south as North Spain (San Sibastian area), to the west as far as Paris, to the north as far as Daventry and the west as far as Lands End/Bristol Channel. The furthest reports are a little fragmented due to weak signal and Data clash from nearby aircraft.

I did have one problem setting up the unit on the Laptop, also running Windows XP service pack 2. I kept getting an error message of,"dfl 2xx.dll not installed". This is a known bug within service pack 2. To correct this bug, go to Device Manager, left click the USB, then right click on each USB and reload the Driver. This is even if the Device Manager for the USB shows all is working well. This then fixed the problem for me.

All in all the SBS-1 is a great item at a reasonable price and you will get hooked on it.

About dll problem

Postby bondenis » October 31st, 2005, 4:50 pm

Hello,

A friend of mine got the dll problem,"dfl 2xx.dll not installed".

He solved it, both on a first computer running W98 and a second one running XP SP2, by a simple way : he copied the dll file from the CD-ROM into the BaseStation root directory. And it works fine, no need to reload USB drivers.

By the way, 73 to G1LEV.

FTD2XX.DLL

Postby ahutch » January 18th, 2006, 6:57 pm

I am having problems loading the basestation on to my laptop and up pops FTD2XX.DLL not installed. I have done many searches on the net and kinetic forums, the answer seems to be here but can someone explain in plain English what I need to do.

Put on your pc and put in the usb cable that commes with the sbs1

If you insert the usb cable to the usb port it asks for drivers.

Put in the CD rom that commes with it and let it search for the right driver on the CD rom drive and not on inet or something.
It than will install the dll that you need.

Later you can start sbs1 software and it will run.

Leave the cable in the port that you used when you installed the dll driver otherways it will ask every time about the dll.

REVIEWS

Postby Dave Kenchington » January 20th, 2006, 9:08 pm

I got mine in October, I use it at home and mobile using a laptop and magmount. At home I use the trunk mount aerial fixed to a 15" pizza tray mounted on the outside wall about 6ft up as I live on the ground floor of a three floor block of flats. I am surrounded by tall offices and flats but can manage 1000 sightings per day from the English Channel to Luton, but a narrow corridor from Mayfield North to Detling and on the East from Goodwood to Compton.
This is the best thing since a scanner, well done Kinetic!!!!

I got mine last saturday, and I havn't stopped using it since, had no problems in stalling the software and installing any add ons seem to be very simple, but i'm sure i'll find something i can't work out.
I've got the standard arial on the roof at the moment and i'm picking up a fair bit.
Excellent peice of equipment

feedback

Postby Wellard » May 30th, 2007, 6:47 pm

Hi all

I purchased my SBS-1 probably close on a year ago now and although my main interest is Military aircraft (I was given to understand that this would be included and it is being worked on) but not to be the case.

I do however get some enjoyment out of it, not as much as some it seems from the forum. I was not at all happy with the way Kinetic handled the situation, they seem to rather stay in the background and monitor rather than get involved in any dicussion, we are now concerned about a power surge and although I have not checked for a couple of days, I have not seen any response from Kinetic as yet. I do have it marked to let me know about responses to this problem.

They do have a great product and I am afraid that if wasn't for people such as Martin Lynch and Son I wonder if we would ever hear from them at all, they could learn a great deal about customer support from ML&S.

I agree with bigging up mlands but would add that most manufacturers rely on agents to deal with the public. The standards those agents must reach can be very strict and must be adhered to constantly.
To be nominated as the official back up by Kinetic is no mean feat and I assume/presume (never too sure of the difference) that they jumped through some hoops to attain that status.

I have picked up loads of RAF/USAF in a short space of time but Valley is quite close and the valley I live in sees regular activity from C130, F15, Apache, Typhoon, Tornado and the ubiquitous black Hawks.
