Following on from the recent thread about OpenATC.com, we felt that we ought to clarify the position regarding the usage of third-party applications alongside BaseStation.
Users are, of course, free to run whatever they wish on their machines. However, our dealers cannot be expected to trouble-shoot problems or issues on BaseStation where an external, third-party application is interfacing with BaseStation. This policy does cover applications that read the Snoopy socket interface or read and write to and from the Snoopy SQLite database.
In addition, users who use applications that interface with BaseStation in ways that were never intended by us (such as Planeplotter's use of freeware utilities to produce a patched version of BaseStation, or other applications' repeated reading of the clipboard) should be aware that they may well experience problems.
EDIT: Clarification added 14th September 09:51
I've had a PM asking if this policy also applies to modified basestation.xsl files (such as mods to show pictures in the Aircraft Info dialog) and changes to the database (such as adding extra fields, or adding triggers to copy callsigns into the user fields).
The answer is yes, this policy does also cover these changes. If you have modified your xsl file or your database structure, our dealers will not be able to troubleshoot any problems that you might encounter while running BaseStation.
This is because if our dealers don't have sight of your machine, they can't recreate the circumstances, and therefore cannot provide support where your setup is non-standard. There are some dealers, such as Martin Lynch & Sons, who offer a facility whereby you can bring your machine to them and they will try and analyse any problems.
