The SBS-2 is housed in a unit with touch-screen, keyboard and mouse that can be connected to a host system via Ethernet. It provides a range of possible outputs that can be processed by Obelix, the accompanying display software that provides real-time virtual radar capabilities. With traditional radar installations being beyond the financial reach of flight schools, the SBS-2 provides visibility and improved safety for aircraft flying within the Flight Schools ATM area.
The transponders are portable between airframes and the minimal installation and maintenance requirements make it ideal for gliders, micro lights and other aircraft.
Because the transponders are portable between aircraft, flight schools need not purchase one for each aircraft in their fleet. An innovative design allows crucial aircraft identity data for Mode-S to be stored on a specialist device attached to the airframe which connects to the transponder.
